About Us

About Litchfield Magazine

There are places that deserve to be documented well. Litchfield County is one of them. Litchfield Magazine exists to give this community the coverage it has earned — honest, beautifully produced, and written by people who live here and care deeply about what they find.

The Place

Litchfield County sits in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut. It is a landscape of rolling hills, dense forests, spring-fed lakes, and small towns that manage to be both deeply rooted and quietly sophisticated. World-class restaurants sit alongside beloved farm stands. Celebrated artists live down the road from fourth-generation farmers.

Because of all this, it is a place with a distinct character. The pace of life here reminds you what actually matters. We never run out of stories to tell.

The Magazine

For over 15 years, Litchfield Magazine has celebrated this community — its people, its businesses, its beauty, and its traditions. In that time, we have become the trusted authority on life in Litchfield County.

We cover the restaurants worth driving for. We write about the homes with history behind every room. We profile the local figures doing remarkable things and the events that bring the community together season after season. Our writers and photographers live and work here. This is not coverage from the outside looking in. It is a publication built by people who are genuinely invested in this place.

Our Publisher

Mary Beth Lawlor became editor of Litchfield Magazine in 2017. In March 2020, she purchased the publication outright and became its Publisher and Editor-in-Chief. She also owns Happening in the Hills, the independent media company behind both Litchfield Magazine and Dutchess Magazine.

Before the magazine, Mary Beth spent years embedded in the fabric of Litchfield County. She wrote, supported local nonprofits, produced events, and connected people across the community. She founded a women’s business networking group and created Savor Litchfield, the county’s premier annual food and beverage event. Her approach to publishing is rooted in the same philosophy: local community deserves serious, beautiful, thoughtful coverage.

Our Team

Every issue is the work of a dedicated team. Our writers, photographers, and contributors know this county well. They bring genuine enthusiasm to everything they cover. We are proud of the talent and care that goes into each page.
