THIS MONTH'S FEATURED ARTIST

Joan Morosani

Joan Morosani lives on a farm in Litchfield (her husband, John, founded and owns Laurel Ridge Grass Fed Beef). Originally from Wilton, Connecticut, she attended Miss Porter’s School, where she was honored with The Art Award. Later, she received a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College. She also attended The University of Pennsylvania, the Art Student’s League, the National Academy, and studied with several distinguished artists over the years. Joan’s work has been exhibited at numerous galleries, libraries and other venues in the Northwest Corner.
Speaking about her latest show of works called Patterns, Shadows & Reflections presented at the Cornwall Library, Joan says, “In these paintings, I hope to give the viewer a sense of participation in the fleeting beauty of everyday life. Quiet moments of reflection and contemplation are both transient and timeless. Ever-changing patterns in the movement of the natural world reflect a sacred geometry. Shadows, which are created by the interplay of darkness and light, have a living presence. There is a personal and universal element of storytelling in all subject matter. The viewer can enter the painting and recognize a moment in time. The process and the materials are part of the expression in this work. I paint in the tradition of oil painting, but rather than working on canvas, I have chosen to paint on archival watercolor paper, treated to bond with the paint. Paper has freshness and immediacy I associate with modernity. Edges are left unfinished which shows layers and gives evidence of the act of putting paint to paper. The abundance of light and sensuality of spring and summer are celebrated in Patterns, Shadows & Reflections.”
