Jessica Jane Russell

Jessica Jane Russell is a painter and installation artist. She has a Masters in Architecture from Yale University, and joint undergraduate degrees in Visual Arts and English Literature from Sydney University, Australia. She was born in Sydney, Australia, moved to New York when she was two, and has lived her life between the two countries. She brings her education in literature, fine art and architecture to a diverse body of work, exploring landscape, figuration, habitation, construction, hand tools, refuse piles, disaster scenes, and desire.
She is actively involved in the arts in the Northwest corner of Connecticut. She hosts events and workshops in her studio space, and guest curates exhibitions and pop-ups throughout the region.
Recent solo shows include EBK gallery [small works], in November 2014. Recent group shows in 2014 and 2013 included The Holiday Show and Farm Fresh at The Gallery, Morris, and Caravan at the Cornwall Bridge Gallery, in Cornwall. In 2012, she was included in LivWill Art’s Popup, in Litchfield. She was selected for Artspace:Torrington in 2011- the predecessor to today’s Five Points gallery. Jane’s work was selected by juror Richard Klein of the Aldrich Museum, for the Washington Art Association’s Juried Show in 2009.
Her curatorial work includes the widely publicized Caravan, the inaugural exhibition at the Cornwall Bridge Gallery, Cornwall, CT. CARAVAN included the work of Cary Smith, Ted Gahl, Jennifer Ebner, Kezia Hearn, Emily Bolevice, Darragh Rooney, and Jessica Jane. For 3 years she collaborated with Jennifer Terzian to present Art Night Out, a town-wide art exhibition hosted by retailers and restaurants in the center of Litchfield. She has also hosted multiple shows and events at The Switch Factory Studio, her studio/exhibition space in Bantam. These include Your Spirit Don’t Leave Knowing, in April 2014, a group show of 6 emerging women artists, including Clare Grill, Eliza Lendvay, Lucy Mink, Dawn Breeze, Diana Chamberlain, and Kezia Hearn, Wayne Herpich Minis, paintings from Wayne Herpich. And in October 2013, in collaboration with Jennifer Terzian, Switch Factory Studio opened with Object Possession: the work of Adrzej Zielinski.
