Darren Winston, Bookseller, a vintage bookstore and gallery in Northwest Connecticut, will host a reception for Picture Book, an exhibition of new works by artist Jeff Joyce.
Joyce uses reclaimed book covers as his canvases for this collection of small landscape sketches, which evoke the simplicity of the 19th century tradition paysages intimes, or “intimate landscapes,” and incorporate the cloth of the covers into the color palette of each work. As Joyce describes it, “the work inhabits the intersection of literary Romanticism and the associated visual cult of nature, capturing the spirit of place with the commensurate desire to evoke the setting as an ideal, the landscape as private world and symbol of cultural yearning.”
Jeff Joyce has had numerous solo exhibitions nationwide, and has participated in group exhibitions organized by The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Harn Museum of Art, The Indianapolis Museum of Art, and The Aldrich Museum of Art. This is Joyce’s second show at Darren Winston, Bookseller.
Picture Book is one of several exhibitions on view during Sharon’s inaugural Art Walk, a walking tour of galleries and artists’ studios on Sharon’s town green on September 16.
