Osvaldo Borsani: Designs for Tecno, an exhibit of the acclaimed Italian designer and architect, will open at George Champion Modern Shop on May 12. The exhibit will coincide with the first ever retrospective of Borsani’s work, opening this spring at Milan’s Triennale Design Museum. Modern Shop owns the largest collection in the United States of Borsani’s original furniture for Tecno.
Osvaldo Borsani (1911-1985) was co-founder of Italian furniture manufacturer Tecno, and the exhibit includes original pieces of the designer’s work, pieces from Modern Shop’s private collection, and rare prototypes.
Owner of George Champion Modern Shop and Borsani collector, George Champion explains, “I have lived with Osvaldo Borsani’s furniture in my own home for over 30 years. With his retrospective opening in Milan, I wanted to share this collection and my appreciation of his work. The original examples in the exhibit show the form and sensuality we have come to expect from Borsani’s postwar Italian design, combined with the ingenious technology from the period. His designs endure as ones we want to live with today.” Osvaldo Borsani: Designs for Tecno is open through June 30, 2018.
