From Yoga to Pilates and Zumba, moving workouts
Laura Pavlik is the owner of this traditional Aikido Dojo. She teaches Aikido, a traditional Japanese martial art based on the principle of non-resistance. Aikido practice involves physical conditioning such as strength, stamina, flexibility, coordination, and resilience. As well, it provides mental conditioning such as self-confidence, concentration, alertness, intuitiveness and concern for others. As a non-violent art, Aikido is great for children. Known as one of the best yoga teachers in the area, Nancy Opgaard practices Ivengar and Ashtanga Yoga. Also a licensed massage therapist, Nancy has added Ayurvedic massage to her services.
Popular Zumba instructor Wanessa Anderson took launched W. Rhythm Fitness Studio in December of 2015, currently the only studio in Litchfield county specializing in Barre workouts. They offer a variety of Barre classes (from beginner to advanced), including YogaBarre, PiYo (fusion of Pilates and Yoga), Piloxing (fusion of standing Pilates, Boxing and aerobics dance), Zumba and Belly Dance Party. As well, the studio holds various workshops such as Restorative Yoga, Latin Dance, Journey Dance and Boxing classes. Coming soon: Tai Chi and Intuitive Movement. This yoga studio is located in a beautifully restored historic building in downtown Litchfield. They offer a variety of yoga and yoga-fitness classes, as well as workshops and events. They also have a wonderful free class on the first Sunday of the month called Karma Yoga, which is open to beginners through advanced practitioners. Guests are simply asked to bring a non-perishable food item, or other appropriate donation for their basket which is given to the charity of the month.
Into Pilates? Then this place is a must for you. Pilates machines, barre and mat classes are all offered in this clean studio. Personal training is available as well.
“The Club,” as it is known to the locals, is filled with natural light and great energy. The spacious facility, conveniently located in the downtown area, is loaded with fitness machines, weights, gadgets and treadmills. With 52 classes per week—which range from aquatics to zumba—there is something here for everyone. Work out with a personal trainer; swim laps in the salt-water (yes, we did say salt water!), Olympic-size pool; or schedule a Pilates session on the reformer in the beautiful private studio. There are two racket ball courts as well. When your muscles ache, (or even if they don’t!) there is a certified massage therapist on staff who will work out all those knots. The Café has delicious energy-restoring shakes to recharge your engine, and a nice assortment of salads and wraps, for a quick convenient meal. The Club also offers a very nice child care service. Exercise with confidence (for a small fee) while your little ones are looked after in a safe, clean, happy environment.
